Listening to DIGIKI's POLYPUNK podcast. Featuring girly Jap-Rap, French counter-rap, crazy people singing in French and Engrish, sound effects, computer voices speaking in tongues, and Very Ape by Nirvana, via Momus.
And speaking of the French Connection: Sady, I missed this last night at the Bottle Shop in Paris:
Just off the boat from NYC and London...........
K. Davis of the Two Tears performing as her "One Lady Band" cette vendredi at 19:30 at the Bottle Shop !!!
Her musical history includes production credits by Brett Gurewitz of the seminal pop-punk band Bad Religion and Mick Collins of the much revered Gories and Dirtbombs. She also had joined forces with Beehive and the Barracudas of San Diego (with members of Rocket from the Crypt and Hot Snakes) after her first group, the Red Aunts, bit the dust.
Her current style, discovered by mistake, with just a micro, kick drum and a guitar, allows her to sing and play all of her songs alone - no backing band necessary. The result is a purer sound than Davis ever made - the simplicity of the line up gives the songs a rawer, more powerful sound of swampy blues, girly pop, rough hewn punk and herky jerky noise.
