Funny [possibly tounge-in-cheek] Momus rant against DJ's yesterday:
Serious or not, I agree with the statement. Right now I'm listening to Symbol by Susumu Yokota, possibly for the last time before I remove it from my playlists, trying to glean anything from it. While the samples I heard from it on the Other Music web site were intriguing, its composition is dominated by samples of european impressionist and post-impressionist samples - Ravel, etc. [I can't stand Mussorgsky, even un-remixed.] Like photos of marble sculptures and classical ruins, it has no charge of it's own but depends entirely on the creative charge of the pieces it borrows from. Perhaps in Japan it is exotic the way Westerns are in Europe. Stick to Colleen - she makes it from scratch. Speaking of, there's a Colleen mix here. |
