Lots-o-stuff going on, things I've been meaning to do for ages: As you can see, I've performed a major update on this site, so all old permalinks are null-and-void. My original intention was to keep adding to a single page until it collapsed under its own weight. I also liked the way I could quickly find a link by scrolling, and that I could get a sense of my own history at-a-glance. But Alberto G. put the fear of god in me the other day, suggesting that if I ever got a link from a major site, I might be looking at $thousands in overage fees. So my new scheme is one idea per screen - soundbites. It's taken awhile because it isn't database-driven like Blogger or WordPress - I'm not comfortable with the way DBs mash up the content - a distaste confirmed and reinforced by my experience of trying to recover Colby's blog... So, I finally got Colby's blog back up - thanks to tech and moral support from Alberto G. and Vig. And, Colby is in a group show that opens this weekend at Nailya Alexander Gallery in NYC. I'm building a virtual Venice - finished the base polygons! No, I'm not riffing off of Gubbiotti's recent drawings - this is just the first step towards a new set of work - possibly illustrations to Calvino's Invisible Cities. Speaking of Calvino, I'm reading his autobiographical writings, Hermit in Paris. His diary of a trip to the States in 1959-60 is great reading - much of is is 'intelligence' on behalf of the publishing firm he was working at. That might sound dry, but it reads well, and I can relate to a lot of it - similar in many respects to the conversations Colby, Jason and I have about our careers. And I've borrowed passages from Baron in the Trees for another project I'm working on - environmental treatments for Geoff Tracy's new restaurant, Lia's. I'm treating them as stencil grafitti, using a custom typeface that I created, based on some signage I saw in Florence. And don't forget Ken Ashton's opening at Flashpoint tonight. |
